Frame Preparation and Measurement
Every successful security door installation begins with proper framing. We remove the old door and frame completely, exposing the rough opening down to studs, sill, and header. The framing is thoroughly inspected for rot and structural integrity, and we confirm that the opening is plumb, level, and square. Measurements are critical — the rough opening must be approximately 1/2 inch larger than the new door unit to allow for shimming and secure mounting.
Step-by-Step Installation
The door frame is set into the rough opening and aligned using heavy shims along the sides — with particular attention to hinge and lock locations. We check vertical, horizontal, and diagonal alignment to ensure the door closes smoothly and evenly.
Locking System and Hardware Reinforcement
High-security doors demand more than standard hardware. We install Grade 1 deadbolts and reinforced latches that drive into the structural framing, not just the jamb. The strike plate is secured with 3- to 4-inch screws that penetrate deep into the studs, and we often add reinforcement plates at the lock area for enhanced resistance to forced entry.
